The Rathenau Institute will present its new report on coaching apps at the Border Sessions festival.

Do you use your smartphone to keep you motivated while you are running? Do you use your telephone to find out how you have slept and how stressed you are? Future apps will be able to continually monitor users and advise them on changing their behaviour, from losing weight to having enough money left at the end of the month to put some aside.
Apps measure our behaviour, emotions, activity and bodily functions. Smart software analyses the data and is able to discover patterns we cannot see ourselves, acting like a sixth sense and supporting a range of everyday choices. Very convenient, but can we also trust them? What do the apps base their advice on? Is a coaching app subject to an oath of professional confidentiality?
