The Alternative Limb Project
The Alternative
Limb Project provides alternative limb covers for amputees. The covers
not only delight the eye, but also help break down social barriers and
encourage a positive dialogue about the human body and difference. The
project works with clients from the conception of ideas to the final
work, with the on-going objective of reflecting their imagination,
personality and interests through their limb.
At Border Sessions, project founder Sophie De Oliveira Barata will
talk about the process of creating realistic limb covers and the impact
it can have on someone, limbs with alternative functions (like the iPod
leg), uncanny valley and the future of prosthetics.
