Ap Verheggen

Ap Verheggen is an extraordinary artist and filmmaker, intending to raise awareness on climate change issues and introduce positive signals through his artworks. He is known for art projects like ‘cool(e)motion’ in which he placed two sculptures on melting icebergs in the Arctic, and ‘Terra Incognita’, one of the world’s largest bronze art works (52 meters in length) which is exhibited at the Shell offices in Rijswijk, the Netherlands.

For his latest project ‘SunGlacier’, Ap Verheggen is planning on creating a glacier in the desert. The more sunrays the sculpture catches, the more ice it will produce. Experiencing this contradictory or at least counterintuitive response, the artist hopes to help beholders shift their mindset to the impossible, the unimaginable.
